To commemorate the D-Day Normandy landings we want to re-tell your family stories.

Worcester City Council are preparing to commemorate D-Day and are inviting people to share their family anecdotes.

They could be stories about the military action itself, or tales of life living in Worcester during and immediately after the Second World War.

We would also love you to share your stories, by recording videos, anecdotes, photographs or even audio of your family's experiences of Worcester during the war.

They will then be included on the Worcester Life Stories YouTube channel and in an exhibition that will be on display at The Guildhall.

Worcester City Council's Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Pat Agar, stressed the importance of sharing historic accounts from D-Day.

She said: "Now that the Second World War is passing out of living memory it is very important for us tell stories about what our relatives were doing during the time of D-Day.

"You might have family stories or anecdotes from the time about the community that we live in.

"The stories will help our new generations to understand our armed forces and their sacrifices better.

"We would like to share the stories of how Worcester families played their part in history."

On 6 June 2024 the country will commemorate 80 years since one of the most significant military operations in British history.

The operation saw 154,000 troops from eight allied nations board 6,000 vessels to cross the English Channel.

Invading into German-occupied western Europe the invasion by sea and air paved the way for the Allies' success.

There will be a range of events in Worcester on D-Day to commemorate the moment in history and during the following weekend. Full details to follow.
