New Mayor for Worcester

Worcester's new Mayor has taken up residence in the Parlour at the Guildhall with outgoing Mayor Councillor Louis Stephen handing over the chain of office to Cllr Mel Allcott, who was voted in at last night's Annual Council meeting.

Cllr Matt Lamb was voted in as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Allcott's chosen charity for her mayoral year will be Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club

New Mayor, Cllr Allcott said:

"It's a great honour to be elected as Mayor of Worcester and I'm excited to start the role.

"The theme for this year is that young people matter. I want to support the lives of young people across Worcester."

The new Council Leader is Lynn Denham (Labour) and her Deputy Leader is Jabba Riaz (Labour).

Also elected at the meeting were the Chairs and Vice Chairs of the Council's committees:
