The outgoing Mayor of Worcester, Louis Stephen, has handed over a cheque of £7,092 to his chosen charity.

Councillor Stephen chose Age UK Worcester, Malvern Hills and Hereford Localities as the charity to raise money for during his year in office and raised a total of £7,399.47 – including money sent directly to the organisation through a QR code.

A range of events were organised to raise money, including a Charity Fashion Show which saw school and college pupils customise outfits for the event.

The Elgar Chorale of Worcester also supported the Mayor of Worcester's fundraising with a concert.

A 'Christmas Bash with Isy and Louis' saw the mayor hold a festive event for older people across Worcestershire who may be lonely or isolated.

The Mayor also hosted the annual Worcester Civic Society lecture titled 'Our Canal Heritage' in aid of the charity.

Worcester Concert Brass performed as part of the Mayor's Charity Spring concert, which also raised funds.

The outgoing Mayor Cllr Stephen said: "It's been a lot of fun supporting Age UK. The highlight for me was the Mayor's Charity Fashion Show.

"We raised lots of money for a great cause and gave a fantastic opportunity to highlight the amazing creative skills of Worcester's young people."

Age UK Worcester, Malvern Hills and Hereford Localities aim to provide top quality and expert support, at a low or free cost to their clients.

Their services include befriending and bereavement support; dementia support; health and wellbeing; help at home; expert information and advice; money and benefits support; social activities and day trips; volunteering opportunities.

Councillor Mel Allcott was elected as the new Mayor of Worcester during an Annual Council meeting on Tuesday night.

Councillor Allcott is raising money for Perdiswell Young Peoples Leisure Club during her year in office.
