Children and young adults are being urged to get creative for a new competition class across a variety of categories at this year's Worcester Show.

The new Youth Skills and Creativity Section of the Show's ever-popular competition categories has been specially designed for 12-17-year-olds.

This year's Show takes place on Sunday 11 August at Pitchcroft from 10am to 5pm.

An official launch event took place this week when participants and volunteers got together to give a flavour of all the fun that will be on offer at this year's Show.

The popular annual event will once again be the perfect family day out in the heart of Worcester, boasting live entertainment, games and activities, and the usual hotly contested competitions.

There will be a packed line-up of live music on the main stage, market stalls, fun fairground rides, a dog show, sports demos, food and drink.

This year's Show has a prehistoric theme, tying in with this summer's Dinosaurs on the Doorstep exhibition at the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum.

Also among the popular attractions returning for this year's Show are Worcester Mela and Worcester Re-enactors.

This year entry to the Show will cost £2 per adult, while under-16s go free. People are urged to get their tickets early on the Worcester Show website.

Worcester City Council's Corporate Director for Operations, Homes and Communities, Lloyd Griffiths said: "The Worcester Show celebrates our city at its best.

"Whatever your interests, there is something at the Show that is perfect for you!

"You can choose to enter the competition classes, sample the local produce, browse the stalls and displays, or simply sit back and enjoy the entertainment on stage.

"The family event has a great festival atmosphere so whatever you like to do, you will find it at the Worcester Show!"

The new Youth Skills and Creativity section of the Show's competition classes is for those aged between 12 and 17 years old.

The bespoke categories include: floral; cacti and succulents; vegetables and fruit – including a humorous vegetable with a caption; giant vegetables; floral decoration and art; cakes and preserves; art; handicraft; photography; creative technology; and literature.

A Worcester Show Trophy will be awarded to the entrant with the most points earned across these 11 youth categories.

Meanwhile, the combined floral and craft marquee is returning, after proving to be very popular last year, and there will also be a new Literature Section in the Competition Marquee.

The Community Marquee will have a unique cultural focus representing the diverse communities in Worcester, with space for people to showcase their skills and talents.

The Show is supported by event partners Southco, Worcester BID, Five Star Windows and First Bus, who will be providing an enhanced bus service into the city for the event.

Visitors are encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint by cycling to this year's event, with extra parking for bikes provided on site.
