Worcester residents are all set for a right royal celebration next month with street parties and a host of celebratory events to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
The special four-day Bank Holiday weekend on 2-5 June will see the city decked out in red, white and blue as the fun gets underway – and shops are encouraged to join in the fun by giving their window displays a Jubilee theme.
Worcester City Council has supported the arranging of more than 120 street parties, providing set-up funding where required. One of these is The Royal Garden Party in the city centre, taking place 11am-5pm on both Saturday 4 June and Sunday 5 June on New Street and Friar Street. This event is a partnership with Worcester BID. Picnic benches will be positioned throughout both streets, food and drink can be ordered direct to the party, and there will be live music and children's activities.
To mark the start of the Jubilee weekend, beacons will be lit across the country on the evening of Thursday June 2. Worcester's beacon will be lit in Fort Royal Park at an event which will begin at 7.30pm with musical entertainment before a bugle announcement at 9.40pm, five minutes before the beacon is lit.
Celebrations at The Commandery run from Saturday May 28 until Sunday June 5. Visitors are invited to make their own crown and sceptre and follow the trail around the building to discover past Kings and Queens who have reigned during The Commandery's lengthy history.
Friday June 3 will see the historic building, famous for its Royalist connections, hold a day of living history, crafts and trails - and the Worcester Reenactors will bring to life The Commandery's historic past.
Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum will be holding a Jubilee-themed Museum After Hours event between 5.30pm and 8pm on Wednesday June 1, with live music and themed cocktails.
Sunday June 5 will see the Mayor of Worcester host a special Big Jubilee Lunch. The event at the Guildhall will see the city's first citizen joined by local residents who have contributed to the wellbeing of the city over the last two very difficult and challenging years.
