Have your say on plans for Gillam St community space

Published: 02 January 2024

Local residents are being asked for their views on proposed improvements to a green space and multi-use games area (MUGA) in Worcester's Arboretum.

Worcester City Council has drawn up plans for a revamp of the community space on the corner of Gillam Street and Green Lane, including relining the ball court, new bike stands and improvements to hedges and the natural habitat.

Residents in the area are being invited to give their opinions on the proposals at www.worcester.gov.uk/voiceit, before plans are finalised and the work gets underway.

The full list of proposed improvements is:

  • Removal of low-quality shrub planting and replacement with grass
  • New hedging around the site
  • New pedestrian entrance gates at four locations
  • Repairs to existing fencing panels
  • Re-lining of the MUGA ball court
  • Upgrading paths from Goodrest Walk to Green Lane, and from Gillam Street past the MUGA
  • New natural log seating
  • Three new bicycle stands next to the MUGA
  • New wildflower areas and trees to increase the biodiversity of the site.

Councillor Robyn Norfolk, chair of Worcester City Council's Place & Economic Development committee, said: "These plans are intended to make the Gillam Street community space more appealing to local families and young people, and I hope residents will like and support our proposals.

"We want to make sure that the revamp of this area meets the needs of local people, so I would strongly encourage them to have their say on the plans at www.worcester.gov.uk/voiceit before the deadline of 31 January."
