Work has been completed on a brand-new all-weather sports pitch in Worcester.

The floodlit pitch at Perdiswell Leisure Centre will be available for use daytime and evenings, seven days per week all year round.

A schedule of use for the new pitch has been agreed with local clubs and an official opening will take place when sports teams resume competitions in September.

The pitch is now in use and available for some casual booking, subject to availability.

Chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee, Councillor Jabba Riaz, said: “I’m delighted that work has been completed on this important all-weather pitch.

“The pitch is an important asset to the community and will benefit people of all ages and abilities.

“From boys and girls starting out on their sporting journey through to older age groups participating in walking football, this pitch is for everybody.

“The facility also means that some local teams no longer have to travel outside of Worcester for their training and match requirements.”

Freedom Leisure operates leisure centres on behalf of Worcester City Council and will manage bookings at the all-weather sports pitch.

Freedom Leisure Area Manager Rob Tyler said: “We have been delighted to work in partnership with Worcester City Council to bring this fabulous 3G pitch to Worcester.

“We are committed to improving lives through leisure and we are sure that the new facility at Perdiswell will make a huge difference to the people of Worcester.

Research for the Council's Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sports Strategy identified a shortfall of artificial grass pitches in the city, with Perdiswell recognised as a priority location.

The project has cost a total of £824,000; £624,000 of this was funded by The Football Foundation, with the difference made up by Worcester City Council.

Field Turf Tarkett, a global leader in synthetic turf for a range of outdoor sports, has supplied the pitch surface, with the facility constructed by S & C Slatter.
