Councillor Mel Allcott has been elected as the Mayor of Worcester, taking over the chain of office from Cllr Louis Stephen.
Worcester City Councillors voted Cllr Allcott into the role, with Cllr Matt Lamb as Deputy Mayor.
During her term in office, Cllr Allcott will be raising money for Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club.
“I am absolutely delighted to be Mayor of Worcester,” she said. “It is a real privilege and a pleasure to be able to serve Worcester city.
“My theme for this year is Youth Matters. Young people face an ever challenging and complicated environment.
“I feel that they can be too easily forgotten and are less likely than adults to speak up, they need support and they need a voice.
“Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club was formed in 1976 in an old wartime asbestos Nissen hut. It gained charitable status in 1986 and is now in a much more modern building and known to many simply as the ‘blue roof’.
“Keeping with its original objectives, ‘blue roof’ provides educational and leisure time activities and facilities and supports charitable purposes in the local community.
“Inclusion groups, musical groups and the skate park are good examples of the activities they offer.”
A very busy year of engagements awaits the new Mayor of Worcester and she is committed to attending as many as possible with her partner Andrew Lee as her Consort. She also has two back-up Consorts, Mike Mullins and Stuart Wild.
Cllr Allcott was born and raised in Worcester and is a former pupil of Bishop Perowne High School.
She moved away from Worcester twice for family and career commitments and returned both times to her home city.
Cllr Allcott is a Chartered Management Accountant, and has worked as an accountant across many sectors, including commercial industry and the public sector.
Cllr Allcott can count back six generations of her family in Worcester and today is particularly proud of her two daughters, Gemma who is researching a PhD at Aston University and Abbey who is reading Fine Art at the University of Lancaster.
She was first elected as a city councillor for Claines in 2019 and re-elected in 2022 and 2024.
