Are you looking for ideas to keep children entertained during the school holidays?

Summer Quest is a new initiative in Worcester, providing FREE challenges to keep the whole family active during August - with prizes on offer for lucky winners.

There are tasks to be completed at home and around your local community.

A decoder challenge takes people around Worcester city centre locations including the Tourist Information Centre, Guildhall, Commandery, Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum and The Hive.

At home, all the family are encouraged to take part in the Les Mills Kids Fitness Challenge, with fitness videos available to view online for free throughout the summer holidays.

The bug hunt adventure challenge can be carried out in your closest outdoor space – accompanied with a bug map printed at home.

The scheme is being run by the Worcester District Collaborative – involving Freedom Leisure, Worcester City Council, Onside and Action For Children.

Adele Hodges, Freedom Leisure's Healthy Communities Manager for Worcestershire, said: “At Freedom Leisure, we are excited to be working on Summer Quest alongside our partners to highlight free activities throughout the summer holidays.

“This initiative reminds everyone that being socially and physically active doesn't always cost money. Together, we're making it easier for families to enjoy a fun and healthy summer."

Worcester City Council’s Chair of the Health & Wellbeing Committee, Councillor Elena Round said: “Keeping everybody healthy physically and mentally during the summer holidays is important to us all.

“These challenges are free of charge and accessible for everybody to enjoy during the summer holidays.

“They can be completed to fill any spare time you have during the next few weeks and you might even win a prize!

“Families can register at www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/summerquestregistration and can then choose from a range of challenges that can be completed at any time and in any order.”

Worcestershire Libraries are also running their Summer Reading Challenge to keep young readers engaged during the holidays. As part of the Summer Quest challenge, participants can enter the prize draw by submitting a photograph of their favourite story and a description of what they enjoyed about the book.

Councillor Karen May, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Communities, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic, free opportunity for children to keep reading and spark their creativity over the summer holidays.

“From junk modelling to painting, dance, and music, our libraries have many activities for children to enjoy during the summer holidays, it’s a fun way to keep young minds engaged all summer long.”

Each time you complete a challenge there’s a chance to be entered into a prize draw by emailing photos, videos or descriptions of your challenges to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Prizes include West Midlands Safari Park passes, a family swim, a game of golf at Mr Mulligans, and Freedom Leisure annual tennis memberships.
