Refurbishment work has created a new digital skills space at a Worcester community centre.

The Green Community Hub, at the heart of Dines Green, has undergone a transformation and is now fitted with a digital skills area for local community to utilise.

This Hub is the first of five in Worcester which are to be refurbished - funded by the Towns Fund initiative.

The Hubs at Dines Green, Tolladine, Ronkswood, along with The KGV Hub and The Horizon Hub were highlighted as needing refurbishing to create a nicer and more appealing learning environment.

Worcester Community Trust, in partnership with Worcester City Council, has carried out the project, which will provide the Hubs with fresher learning spaces for community use.

The new digital skills area will provide comfortable surroundings where people can develop new skills.

Worcester Community Trust has hired a digital skills advisor who will provide drop-in sessions and deliver courses to help people learn brand new skills, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Some of these sessions and courses will focus on helping parents to keep their children safe online, assisting older generations in accessing the internet to pay bills, and supporting people back into work with CV writing sessions.

Refurbishment work at the Green Community Hub has been completed and work at the four other community Hubs across Worcester is in progress.

Deputy CEO at Worcester Community Trust, Helen Davies said: “It has been wonderful to see the Hub receive some tender loving care after all these years and local residents are already delighted with the changes.”

Worcester City Council’s Vice-chair of the Communities Committee, Councillor Jill Desayrah said: “Helping people to build digital skills is so important, as almost every strand of modern life involves the digital world.

“This refurbishment work has resulted in a comfortable working environment where people can focus on their learning. We now look forward to witnessing the positive impact these changes will make.”
