Worcester City Council would like your views about how trees across the city should be managed and enhanced over the next 25 years.

The Council is making initial steps towards producing a long-term strategy which aims to ensure that existing trees are appropriately managed, and new trees are planted.

The Tree Strategy will provide a vision of how the urban treescape is expected to change and adapt over time.

This aims to improve the character and appearance of the area by developing a diverse treescape by 2050 and help the city adapt to the effects of climate change.

Having a long-term tree strategy should also help unlock future funding opportunities for new tree planting and support future partnership working.

The City Council is asking residents, business owners and visitors to share their thoughts on what the priorities should be for a Tree Strategy for Worcester, and how people should be able to get involved through volunteering.

Worcester City Council’s Chair of the Environment Committee, Councillor Zoe Cookson said: “The Tree Strategy is an important piece of work which will set out how the City Council manages existing and plants new trees in parks and other council owned land over the next 25 years.

“Studies show that there is a direct link between improved mental health and areas with trees.”

Place & Economic Development Committee Chair, Councillor Robyn Norfolk added: “The Strategy will provide a long-term plan for where trees will be positioned in our urban areas.

“Trees in urban areas can have a significant and real impact on improving the look and feel of our city for residents and visitors.

“For the strategy to be successful and represent as many views as possible, it’s important to have input from a wide range of people and groups from across our city at this early stage in the preparation of this important piece of work”.

“You can give us your views at www.worcester.gov.uk/voiceit.”

The Tree Strategy consultation is due to run for five weeks at www.worcester.gov.uk/voiceit until 30 August 2024.

Anyone without internet access can access information about the consultation at the Guildhall in High Street or call 01905 722233 to request a printed copy.
