The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Stephen Hodgson, will release a video message on Sunday to mark the anniversary of VJ Day, the last day of the Second World War.
VE Day in May 1945 marked the end of the Second World War in Europe, but the fighting continued in the Far East for more than three more months. It was only with the announcement of Imperial Japan's surrender on 15 August 1945 that the War effectively ended.
The specially-recorded message will be released on Worcester City Council's YouTube channel.
In his message, the Mayor will say: "Today we mark the seventy-sixth anniversary of that event, VJ Day. We remember the horrors of a war in which around 75 million people died. And we remember the contribution of all Commonwealth and Allied Forces, without whom victory, and the freedoms and way of life we enjoy today, would not have been possible."
