Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Jo Hodges, said:
"The Councillors and Officers of Worcester City Council are deeply saddened at the news of the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time."
Prince Philip's ceremonial royal funeral will be held at St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, at 3pm on Saturday, 17 April. The event will be televised.
Please join the minute's silence at 3pm on Saturday, marking the start of the funeral.
Residents can also pay their respects to Prince Philip at the online Book of Condolence for Worcestershire. A national book of condolence is also available on The British Monarchy website.
Worcester Cathedral is open 7:30am-10pm for the laying of flowers and lighting of candles. A service of prayers for the Duke will be held on Friday 16 April. Attendance is strictly limited but the service can be watched on the Cathedral's Facebook page.
Worcester residents who want to pay tribute by other means can donate to the Worcestershire Community Foundation.
The Union Flag is being flown at half-mast at City Council buildings, including the Guildhall, and at Cathedral Square. This will continue until the official end of the national period of mourinign at 8am on Sunday, 18 April. The Guildhall will be illuminated in purple during the national period of mourning.
