The Mayor of Worcester is asking city residents to remember the fallen and support the Poppy Appeal from home during the new lockdown.
The normal war memorial ceremony and military parade have been cancelled and the new lockdown rules mean that Worcester Cathedral's remembrance service will not be open to the public.
Veterans and other residents are being asked to stay away from the Cathedral and the war memorial on Sunday, and to stay at home in line with the Government's new guidance.
The Cathedral will be streaming a remembrance service on its Facebook page at 10.30am on Sunday, despite not being able to open its doors to worshippers. Donations to the Poppy Appeal can also be made online.
The Mayor, Councillor Jo Hodges, said: "None of us have ever known a Remembrance Sunday like this one, but with the country in lockdown this is a time to stay at home and follow the rules.
"Please watch the Cathedral's service from 10.30am on their Facebook page and observe Remembrance Sunday in your own way. You might want to hold a small service in your garden or stand on your doorstep to observe the two-minute silence.
"The lockdown also makes it harder to support the Poppy Appeal, but I would encourage Worcester people to make a donation online, or even download a virtual poppy, at the Royal British Legion's website. By doing so you'll be supporting the vital work that the Royal British Legion continue to do in these difficult times."
The Mayor was supported by the City Council's Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Chris Mitchell.
He said: "Despite the usual military parade and war memorial service being cancelled this year, I know some veterans will still be tempted to go to the Cathedral on Sunday and pay tribute to those who fell defending our freedoms.
"I want to ask them to stay at home and mark this important day there. The sacrifice their colleagues made will never be forgotten, but unfortunately in the current circumstances we need to remember that many of our veterans are among the most vulnerable to this terrible virus. Please follow the Royal British Legion's own advice and remember the fallen from your home."
