Worcester City Council is offering grants of up to £3,000 to city charities, volunteer groups and community groups that can deliver services to Worcester residents suffering from hardship or poor health this winter.
The aim of the new Health and Hardship Grant Fund is to help residents cope with the impact of Covid-19 and to tackle key health issues within the city.
Grants will be made to organisations that support people who are struggling to afford food and other essentials because of the pandemic, and also to those that tackle issues that can affect people's health and wellbeing, such as homelessness, racial discrimination and loneliness.
Councillor James Stanley, Chair of the City Council's Communities Committee, said: "The City Council has played an important role in helping our residents and businesses deal with the impact of Covid, through a range of different funding schemes and projects.
"This new Health and Hardship Grant Fund is an essential part of the Community Recovery Strategy for Worcester that we published in the summer. We need to work with partners across our communities to help residents get through this crisis, and this new initiative will give a helping hand to the people who need it most."
The City Council is contacting charities, voluntary groups and community organisations to discuss initiatives that could qualify for the grant scheme.

A total of £28,425 is available under the new scheme, funded by the Government's Local Authority Emergency Assistance Grant (LAEAG) fund for food and essential supplies, and the Healthy Worcester Plan.

The deadline for applications to the Health and Hardship Grant Fund is Sunday 15 November 2020, and any funds awarded need to be spent on community projects by 31 March 2021.
