Cricket fan scoops £2,000 in Worcester Community Lottery

Published: 08 June 2020

A local resident who is a long-term supporter of Worcester Cricket Club in Norton has scooped £2,000 in the city's Community Lottery.

The Worcester Community Lottery (www.worcesterlottery.org)gives players the chance to sign up for entry into a weekly draw, and to choose which local causes they want to benefit from their subscription. The list includes youth clubs, sports clubs, arts organisations and medical charities.

Tickets cost £1 each - of which 60p goes to good causes (50p to the player's chosen good cause and 10p to a community fund).

Players have a one-in-50 chance of winning a prize, up to a maximum of £25,000.

Rob Goodman, a youth cricket coach at Worcester Cricket Club, signed up for the Community Lottery when it launched just over a year ago.

"I was keen to join the Community Lottery because I knew that half of the money I spent on tickets would go directly to my chosen good cause: Worcester Cricket Club," explains Rob.

"Like many other sports clubs, we are currently closed and therefore unable to generate any income. When we re-open, clubs like ours will need strong community support to ensure we can keep going and be there for all to enjoy.

"I would encourage more people to join the Worcester Community Lottery at www.worcesterlottery.org and support a local cause they care about. And as I've proved, you can get lucky and win too!"

Worcester Cricket Club has over 50 senior playing members and 185 junior members. The Club plays at the top of Worcestershire cricket leagues, and has enjoyed considerable success in recent years.

The Club also host the Norton Community Games, Party On The Pitch and annual fireworks display, as well as Norton Youth Club. It has ambitious plans to build a new Clubhouse and is looking for financial assistance to help improve facilities and to invest in new training equipment.

The club sits at the heart of the Brockhill community in Norton and is always looking for new volunteers and members.
