The Mayor of Worcester is encouraging people to visit Worcester's numerous historic attractions during a weekend of celebration of the city's heritage.
Mayor Cllr Louis Stephen will be welcoming visitors to The Guildhall on Saturday 9 September and Sunday 10 September. The Guildhall was built in 1721 and was once the seat of justice for the city, even housing a prison. Hourly tours of the Guildhall will be given between 10am and 3pm.
Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum will be open between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday 9 September. Visit the Worcestershire Soldier exhibition which tells the story of the men of the Worcestershire Regiments from 1694 to the present. Saturday 9 September is also the final day of the I Grew Up 80s! exhibition.
Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service will be holding Behind the Scenes tours at The Hive on Saturday 9 September between 1pm and 2pm and between 2pm and 3pm. Letters from the Titanic, Shakespeare's marriage bond and much more are part of 12 miles of collections at Worcestershire Archives. The tours are free, but booking is required via the Explore The Past website.
From Civil War history and beautifully preserved medieval wall paintings to spacious walled gardens and the fantastic canalside Commandery Coffee, there's something for everyone at The Commandery, which will be offering free admission between 11am and 3pm on Sunday September 10. Visitors can also enjoy a free event organised by Worcester Mela in the Commandery gardens, including traditional music, crafts, dancing and poetry.
Other local attractions which will be open at various times throughout the weekend will be the Tudor House in Friar Street, the Museum of Royal Worcester in Severn Street, Greyfriars House and Garden, St Swithun's Church, Worcester Cathedral and the Infirmary Museum at the University of Worcester's City Campus.
