Planning a trip to Worcester has never been easier with an ever-expanding number of shops, cafes and businesses being added to the city's accessibility guide.
AccessAble is a free service which offers detailed information about the accessibility of a whole host of places across the city including leisure centres, shops, restaurants and tourist attractions – and even the forthcoming Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre | AccessAble, which is on from Thursday December 1 to Sunday December 5.
Every place included has details of parking, entrances and toilets along with measurements and photographs. The AccessAble guide isn't just about physical access, it also covers details useful for those with visual or hearing impairments, autism, dementia, learning disabilities and mental health issues.
There are now more than 320 places with separate access guides published on AccessAble's App and website dedicated to Worcester City Council's account and each one has been visited and assessed in person.
There are also separate guides for places such as Worcester University, Worcestershire Acute NHS and Crowngate as well as AccessAble's national partners such as Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Odeon.
Worcester City councillors have this month agreed funding for a new three-year contract for AccessAble online guides, meaning the service can be expanded further.
AccessAble are designing Worcester specific window stickers with QR codes to go up in city venues and the AccessAble information will also be included in welcome packs for new businesses in the Worcester BID area.
Councillor Lynn Denham, chair of Worcester City Council's Health and Wellbeing Committee, said: "AccessAble is a really useful service to help visitors plan ahead and ensure that they get the most out of their trip to Worcester.
"Worcester offers a warm welcome to all visitors and is an inclusive and safe city to visit by day or by night. The information on AccessAble means that disabled people and their carers can be confident in planning their visit."
Worcester BID have also set aside a budget to support businesses within their area to be surveyed for an access guide.
