With many Worcester residents on holiday during August, Worcester City Council is taking the opportunity to carry out important maintenance at some of the city centre car parks it operates, while fewer people are using them.
Between Monday and Thursday next week (8-11 August) the Council will be repainting the parking space lines in some of the city's busiest car parks. This will mean that some of those car parks will be fully or partially closed for part of the day.
Councillor Andy Stafford, Chair of the City Council's Environment Committee, said: "The City Council-run car parks are among the most popular in the city, which means they get a lot of wear and tear. As a result many of the lines that mark out the parking spaces have faded. With many residents away for the summer holidays, this is the ideal time to get in and repaint those lines.
"We are doing our best to keep disruption to a minimum, so no car park will be closed for more than one day. Anyone who normally uses the affected car parks can find an alternative location to park at www.worcester.gov.uk/parking."
The schedule for the work is:
- Monday 8 August – Pitchcroft car park, closed 7am-3pm
- Tuesday 9 August – Copenhagen St car park, bays on the right and the disabled bays at the top will be closed 7am-3pm. Also, some disabled and parent bays at Cornmarket car park will be closed all day
- Wednesday 10 August – Cornmarket car park, closed 7am-3pm
- Thursday 11 August – King Street car park, closed 7am-3pm
A small amount of maintenance work will take place over the same period in other car parks, but this will not require any closures.
Pitchcroft and King Street car parks both include a small amount of spaces which are reserved for use by residents in the area. The City Council has contacted all these residents and made alternative arrangements for the days when those car parks are closed.
The Council is also directly contacting customers who hold long-term parking permits for any of its car parks.
The majority of the City Council's car parks offer disabled spaces.
