Help shape Worcester’s new transport strategy

Published: 21 March 2022

Worcester residents are being asked to help shape a new transport strategy for the city centre.

The City Council is preparing the new policy to help decide what improvements and changes to transport routes and infrastructure will be needed in the future. The completed strategy will operate within the context of the county-wide Local Transport Plan.

A survey has been launched at the City Council's Voice It webpage to give people who live, work in, or visit the city centre, the chance to tell the Council about how they currently travel, and also how they would like to travel in the future.

The new strategy will aim to achieve the right balance for all forms of journey in the city, whether that is by foot, bike, car, public transport or other means.

It is also intended to address important related issues, including air quality, parking provision, and the state and quality of roads, pavements and pathways.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Leader of Worcester City Council, said: "We hope people will take ten minutes to fill in the short survey at www.worcester.gov.uk/voiceit and help us to prepare this important strategy, which will have a lasting impact on our city centre.

"Both transport technology and people's attitudes to travel are changing, and it's vital that we have a strategy in place that will ensure the changes made in the future are the right ones for people who live, work or visit our city."

The survey responses will help the City Council to better understand and to quantify transportation issues in the city centre, as part of the process of developing the new strategy.

The Worcester City Centre Transport Strategy will be designed to work alongside other local plans, including Worcestershire County Council's Local Transport Plan (LTP4), the South Worcestershire Development Plan, the Worcestershire Rail Strategy and the Shrub Hill Masterplan.

The Worcester City Centre Transport Strategy survey is open until 10 April.
