Worcester City Council is undertaking several improvements at Cromwell Crescent Park (WR5 2JW), with work commencing today (Monday 6 September).
New all-weather paths are to be created along with the installation of more bins, park benches, cycle hoops, picnic tables and natural play features in the play area.
The iron entrance gate and posts which were originally manufactured at a Worcester foundry will be restored, and new railings will be installed adjacent to Cromwell Crescent.
In the Autumn and Spring, several steps to boost biodiversity will also be introduced – including the installation of bird and bat boxes, the creation of a wildflower meadow and the planting of new bulbs, shrubs and trees.
"This investment will really improve the experience of visitors to this much-loved park," says Cllr Andy Stafford, Chair of Worcester City Council's Environment Committee."
"It will also ensure that it continues to provide a safe haven for birds and bats, with the new wildflower meadow helping to boost the numbers of bees and other insect pollinators."
City Council staff and contractors will be supported by members of Community Payback - a national scheme which allows offenders to work, under close supervision, on projects to pay back the community for their crimes.
The park will remain open while improvements are being made; however the entrance on Cromwell Crescent will remain closed for approximately two months while the work is carried out.The park can be accessed through the entrance at Foxwell Street.
